Out of our last discussion, there was a question: How fast could I run a mile? Last night, in the pub, the question came up again, so, despite a little too much Belhaven Twisted Thistle last night and a donut this morning I decided to find out at lunchtime. The answer - I can run a mile in 8 minutes and 39 seconds.
It's not great, but it's not terrible. I was pretty pegged out by the end, but think I can go faster with a little less beer and fried food in me. If I were being chased by velociraptors, I could probably get under 7, but since they're, hopefully, extinct, I'll aim to get under 8. We'll see.
I know some of you are a bit too competitive for your own good, others amongst you run, a lot. Some of you probably looked at my time and thought, 'I'm going to beat that'. That's okay. This is not a gauntlet. It has not been thrown down, but if you do choose to pick it up anyway, let me know how you get on.

You know, your house looks strangely close to the velociraptor entry point one. . .
Awesome job on the jog! I started my running all over again just yesterday (Wed.). Yes, yes. . . I know, I let it go over the past few months & let's not get into how much I regret this. Anyway, I got 1.8-miles in 20 minutes by running 3 minutes and walking one minute, then running 3 then walking 1 and so on and so forth. Not too awful for my first time out the gate. Yours is still better, I know.
BTW ~ What's happened to Fi and Alex? Do we have to go ninja stealth again to fish them out of some Turkish prison for selling Greek brochures?
Yep okay, sorry, we got abducted by aliens, they did experiments, we're not 'suitable' so now we're back. Don't wanna talk about it.
I'm not as competitive as you. I've got no idea how long it would take me to run a mile... can I use a car? It's just that it's awfully hot here! The last time I did a fitness test I did 1.5 miles in 11 minutes so yours is a pretty impressive time.
Now that you mention it, our house really doesn't look velociraptor proof at all. We've got at least 3 entry points, so we're toast.
11 minutes for 1.5 is awesome. So 7.5 minutes for your mile, roughly
I don't care what you say, it looks like it would fit a hand and it's been dropped if not actually thrown. Of course, not being at all competitive, I wouldn't dream of picking it up, but I am curious to see what I could do it in.
Last night's run worked out at about 2.9mi in a little over 24 mins (accuracy is not one of my biggest concerns) so I reckon I could probably get under 8 even without velociraptor assistance.
1.5 mi in 11 mins sounds pretty quick but then I'd expect that from our highly trained crack troops. Good to hear the aliens let you guys go.
Hmm, seems like I have some work to do. Next week, less beer, more running!
I should probably qualify that it's been a while since my last fitness test and I've eaten an awful lot of halloumi in that time!
We have crack troops? That sounds great, how do I get posted there, reality is such a drag.
The crack troops are a little bonkers I hear. You may want to try to get posted to the smack troops, or even better the blow troops.
