It's a.....

It's a......baby!
Sorry I don't want to know if it is a boy or a girl, Ian does but he didn't win this argument. So you'll just have to wait until July 30th to find out.

There was never any chance of Ian winning this argument was there? After today I don't care anyway, that was the coolest thing ever. Apart from the scary ghost skull shots...:-)

Now that you mention it, yes, I can see how this post supersedes the last . . .

Finally! I've been waiting and waiting and waiting for ya'll to post about this most FABULOUS EVENT you two are about to embark on together!

I'm truly happy for you both! This child could not have asked for any better parents! Lucky little one they are!

I won't ask Thomas. Promise. I want a surprise too.

BTW Ian, they totally look like you. Feet and all.

Congrats, you 2!!! :)

Ah finally, the worst kept secret since Michael Barrymore's sexuality.

Congratulations, and I'm glad it doesn't look like a pecan anymore!

Love to all three of you.

Wow, yeah, great, brilliant!!!! Congrats to both!

Whether a boy or a girl, he/she will enjoy the xbox 360 with Dad for sure ;-)

I know it seems unlikely but I dreamed last night that you were pregnant so my heart is racing now that I see this post cos we didn't know your secret until now. that is amazing!! We're both really happy for you :-) Your baby will be just 6 months younger than Magnus. You were obviously expecting when I was going through the end of my pregnancy - hope the gory details blog didn't worry you! Are you going to post a bump photo now?
Love to you all, Vikki + Iain + Lachlan + Calum + Magnus xxx

Congratulations - that's great news.
Personally I loved all the scary ghost skull shots of our boys.
It's a bit scary that Vikki dreamt about it - I reckon her subconscious mind is linked to the internet somehow.

Thank you all for your comments. We didn't do a very good job of keeping this quiet, I'll admit, but when you meet people over the festive season and you're not drinking...for some reason, everybody just guessed Nikki was pregnant. I'd be insulted if I were her.

The kid is definitely going to be an XBox kid. What better way to lull a crying baby to sleep than with a few levels of blowing up aliens?

Vikki, I can't speak for Nikki, but you didn't scare me with the gory details blog...the dream thing is a bit of a concern though. Do they still burn witches in Stoney?

Vikki said...

The JogScotland crowd thought I was pregnant on the day of the test (Baker Hughes 10k) cos I didn't have the traditional post-race sesh. Luckily they kept it quiet til the 12 week scan. Did you not get a 12 week scan? I can't beleive you're going to be a Dad in only 4.5 months!!! Have you been looking at prams etc yet? Iain got excited over the baby-carriers and monitors.
If you think a crying baby is going to be lulled to sleep by playing an X box you are in for a shock!!
Maybe I am a witch... maybe my head is just full of babies etc as it's all I think about. My best friend had her daughter 13 days after M arrived, and all my Stoney pals are Mums. I knew you wanted to be a Dad and it's just the natural thing! Now we just hope my sister will go for it after her wedding in May. I'm so excited by all the baby stuff right now - well done to both of you. V xxx

PS You wouldn't be scared about the gory details cos you won't be the one giving birth! Let's hope you don't show yourself up by fainting at the sight of blood like some other people I could mention...

I don't think it was a 12 week scan. Nikki can probably confirm. I think it was 8 weeks or something. So we knew at Christmas, but had another few weeks to go before we could really announce it. We have been telling people for a few weeks, but wanted to wait until we had a picture that showed something before blogging it.

We have been looking at some of the cool gadgets you can get these days. Plus I've started a swear box where I'm going to buy a nappy every time. After fighting mad drivers on the road all weekend, I now owe 153. (All for the word 'heck', mum).

I don't think I'll faint. Though I'll be sitting down, just in case, by the time Nikki texts me in the pub to tell me what the sex is.

I got a 8 week scan, which isn't very exciting to blog since it looks like a peanut (or pecan as Alex called it).

Amazingly Ian isn't terribly excited about the baby monitors with built in video screens, I thought that would be the perfect gadget. Although I haven't shown him the stroller-o-meter you can attach to the buggy to measure how far you've walked.

And don't worry, Ian will not be in the pub. The hospital has all the cable channels and a nice comfy sofa in each room so he'll be quite happy there.

Do you think the sound of PATA-PATA-PATA-PON! from my PSP will irritate you much?

Bruce Lenorf said...

Congratulations to both of you!
Now let's just hope he will get most of his genes from his mother's side.

jroneill said...

Well eff me! Congratulations to the pair of you.

Vikki said...

Bruce seems to think it'a boy anyway!!

Alex&Fi said...

A friend of mine showed me a video of her scan, they had it done privately in Edinburgh and the ghostly skull was definitely a bit freaky! I couldn't believe how fast it moved either....suppose there's still space to swim at this stage! ;-)
Nikki - at least be grateful that Ian wants to bring the PSP PATA-PATA-PATA-PON is more bearable than a video camera at the business end!

Bruno: I'd like to argue the case for my own genes here, but let's hope s/he does, yes.

Richard: Thanks. But I'll pass on the effing you offer.

Vikki: I've seen Bruce's own gender move around depending on what day of the week it is, so I wouldn't take his guesses too seriously.

Fi: Yeah, there was definitely a lot of moving around going on. Oh, and if you haven't already done so, download the PATAPON demo for your PSP, you can thank me later.

JFC, I&N, this is most excellent news. My sincere congratulations to the 3 of you!

You know Nikki, my record is now 17/20 for correctly guessing the sex of a baby (recently: LoicHeidi and PhilippeIsabelle)....

Ian, don't you think that the new XBox would be a perfect gift for her birth day?!

Cheers,
Ed

Ian said...

Thanks Ed. We are in awe of your prediction skills, though distance may be a limiting factor in this one.

I'm thinking Nintendo Wii as a birth gift. It's more appropriate for children and nothing to do with me owning an XBox already.

Bruce Lenorf said...

Well, with all my respect, I know how to read an echography, and I can tell you he is a boy. Just look at how he raises his elbow in the first picture. I have seen that very same move many times from his dad.

Alex&Fi said...

Bravo Bruno!! I can't believe none of the rest of us noticed...you're so right!!!

Ian said...

Good one! Yeah, okay, you could be right.

shanksi said...

Hey Mr/Dr Lenorf, have a look on the Shanks blog date 7th Sep 2007 and predict the sex of that baby!!

PS Noticed Nikki said she felt the baby kick (on facebook). That's lovely :-). It's the best thing about being pregnant and I miss not feeling my baby kicking inside. Now he just headbutts me when he's screaming with the colic :-(

Vikki said...

That last comment was me, not Iain - he wasn't pregnant

Ian said...

I'm guessing boy...

I got a kick in the head when trying to listen to the baby's heartbeat on Sunday. Cool! Kicks in the head from outside might not be as much fun.

You know, we could settle all this and just ask someone I know who may or may not know a thing or two about ultra-sounds. . . . Of course, you 2 are full of trickery and posted photos of feet and thigh covering bits.

Excellent point, Bruno, about that exact same "raise of the elbow". . . Pretty telling there, eh?

Ian said...

What do you mean "you two"? Nikki might be full of trickery, but not me. Nikki reckons we should do a poll though, to test the wisdom of crowds. Thomas's (and Bruno and Eddie's, of course) expertise may be lost among the noise of the rest of us morons.

Anonymous said...

I must admit that Bruno's elbow argument is initially quite compelling, but I do know 1 or 2 English women who also have quite "well developed" elbows, so I am not sure about this approach.

The other argument about the choice of photo and it covering the important bits is also compelling, but then these little bebe's do move a lot and kick and suck their thumbs, so its all kinda confusing.

I am thus forced to rely on my gut feeling as usual. Either way, it really does not matter because both sexes require diaper changes, cry, burp, fart, smile, suck their thumbs, kick, and so on. In the end, all you need is love.
