There was some kind of mass brawl in Rice Village last night while Nikki and I were at The Ginger Man. Annoyingly, no-one came running in to shout "Fight" when it broke out, so we had no idea until it was all over. Very disappointing. The cops turned out in force at least, so someone probably had a bad night.
On a more important note, I tried the coffee porter. Didn't really taste of coffee, but it was a pretty good porter.

Sweet! Though street brawls scare the crap out of me. I think it goes back to the time I was a bystander (unknowing bystander) and almost got punched in the head.
The Ugly Pug here in Fort Worth has a stout that has a hint of coffee to it. I LOVE IT! Superb brewsky!
NICE!!!
Maybe this is what I needed to confirm to that we need not move inside the loop??? (The hubby & I have considered it, since we will both be working inside "the loop.")
What say you? How do you & the Mrs. like it???
Probably best that you missed all the action.
Hopefully there'll be some sort of beer with a hint of coffee at the Aberdeen beer festival which is on next month. I'm really looking forward to it.
Jen: Yeah, I didn't want to be involved in one, just witness to it from the front porch of the pub.
Alli: We aren't quite inside the loop, but we're close enough. It's awesome, easy access to everything, plenty of good pubs and restaurants to choose from, no commute...move out of the boonies.
Shanks: You could always try brewing your own...
Been there. Done that. Lots of messing about with horrible chemicals to sterilize everything and the end produce wasn't that great. Of course, I could always give it another go. It'd be much better this time....
Hello long time no talk! I would consider that missing a fight in the capital of gun culture wouldn't be a bad thing.
OK now on to a previous post where you moaned about that woman in the airport that snapped at you for trying to help her. While I agree she seems to have snapped at you for no reason and that wasn't very nice as you were just trying to help, I challenge you to do a long distant flight with two young children, numerous amounts of hand baggage brought on to keep other passengers from having to suffer your kids" and keep them amused and having the airlines crap on you by refusing help for "health and safety reasons" while presenting you with whatever objects they can come up with and generally making your life miserable and the journey 1000 times more difficult than it need be. I have been that woman several times (not the snappy part although I did manage to use "all the bad words" I could think of once when while standing holding 3 carrys ons and one child not one person offered to let me have their seat in the lounge. Did I mention I was 6 months pregnant?). I feel nothing but sympathy for her. I understand why she accidentally snapped at a good samaritarian such as yourself. Which by the way dont seem to be around much anynmore. So kudos to you Ian for being the 1% of people in this world that will actually help someone who is blatantly struggling! That's the only thing that stops us crazies breaking down in the middle of a journey. Whew. Ranting sorry, been up since 5am. xxxxxxx
Shanks: Nikki and I have brewed our own beer twice. Once was quite successful, second time, not so much, as Alex's hangover on New Year's Day proved.
Lizzie: Welcome back, surely Houston's not the capital of gun culture? That would be some ghetto like Compton or Washington D.C.
I understood the woman who shouted at me was having a bad day, I managed to keep my sunny demeanor because I knew she probably thought the big idiot refusing to grab her pram properly would result in one more thing going horribly wrong in a day that couldn't get much worse.
Well now its not 5am I'm not so ranty- I honestly think you should be commended just even for trying to help because maybe its just me but no-one ever seems willing to help anymore. It is very precious and soothing to actually have someone offer to help. It really can save you from mental breakdown. I can't tell you in the past 2 years how many doors have been left to shut in my face while someone strides past me as I try and get the pram through, how many airline staff have (almost happily) told me that there is no lift/escalator and I'll have to carry the bags, two children and pram down the stairs... Trust me you ARE remembered for helping. And on the subject a big shout out to Tom who pretended to be my husband on an Amsterdam flight so he could help me carry the bags and pram down the stairs and also to the rather tanned Scandanavian chap who was the only one in the entire club lounge (men and women) to offer me a seat when I was trying to feed James.
God, I sound like such a nut job now. Sore point I suppose. Anyway just please don't give up being the nice guy because one woman reached her ragged end and (wrongly) snapped at you!
And now I shall return your blog back to you.... :-)
Oh and yes you're probably right, DC is probably more of a murder city. In fact we have a rather lovely game where Burke and I guess on the 10 o'clock news each night to see if its SE, NW or Georgetown where the shooting will be there that day. 6-3 to me so far! Also recently we've been trying to guess the age of the (probably) teenagers involved!
Houston can be the capital of legal gun carrying then and we'll be the skanky illegal firearm capital :-)
It wasn't the beer, it was the hot tub and I will maintain that until my dying day!
Lizzie: I like your "Where's the shooting?" game. Although, in Houston, I think you'd win by saying Southwest every night.
Bruv: Yeah, the hot-tub didn't help, but the beer may have been slightly high in alcohol content too. Slightly. Not a good combination.
Aww! The Ginger Man! I go there almost every time I'm in Houston. :)
It is an awesome pub. I just wish they'd add food and then I'd never have to go anywhere else.
