Announcing an exciting new feature on the Ian and Nikki blog: "Where's Ian?"
If you look to the right, and scroll down past the newly patched together widget that clunkily works around the fact that blogger's comment feed is no longer compliant with their feed page element, you'll see it. If it works as designed, I can text updates from anywhere in the world, that let you know where I am and what I'm doing.
The service is called Twitter and, if you're interested in receiving a text on your phone, whenever I send a text to twitter from my phone, you can set your phone to follow me, or something. I didn't really read that bit because it seems a little stupid. Who on Earth would want to know where I am and what I'm doing at all times. (Hi Mum! Shame they didn't have this 18 years ago, eh?)
It all seems a little bit pointless really, but since I'm off on my travels next Thursday and probably not going to be able to blog very much, I thought I'd give it a go and see how well it works.

Be good to hear what you're doing now never mind 18yrs ago.
Like where are you going on your travels for instance
I'd let you know, but I don't want to ruin the fun for everyone who'll be following me through the exciting new "Where's Ian?" feature.
First facebook, now twitter. Is this the internet generation's version of a mid-life crisis?
Could be. I'm discovering all these things significantly later than most people, but I'm a bit more critical of them. I'm already considering closing my facebook account.
Is this because I never gave you a shot on the ZX Spectrum when we were wee? Sorry man!
That's probably got a lot to do with a lot of things. Yes.
So, I've been thinking of leaving Facebook too. What is your reasoning behind wanting to leave.
And(!) What happened to my quotes link on my blog. I noticed yours disappeared, but you got yours back. How? ? ?
Let us know how your travels go & be safe!
P.S. Nikki, "hello"! Hope you are awesome too!
I have a mild discomfort level with it. I understand that the new internet is all about sharing information and information wants to be free and all that, but at the same time I want to automatically opt out of sharing everything, with every one, every time and kind of choose what and where I share and facebook doesn't really give me that option other than through insulting the person who asked for the information. Information that they probably didn't really want anyway. I realise I signed up for it and I also understand that the information that's there is information I provided, and that the friend of a friend of a friend of a friend knowing minor biographical details about me isn't that big a deal but there are 800 other ways for the people I want to be in touch with to stay in touch with me and since no-one I wasn't already in touch with has located me since I signed up then at the end of the day, what am I getting out of it?
Honestly, that is exactly the way I feel. No one I've lost touch with has found me. And, though I greatly value those who are my "friends" on Facebook, they already knew where I be. So. . . I don't get it. AND(!) when I found out FB was going to be available to marketers and what-not, I just lost interest.
I took it down from my blog a month or two back, b/c I didn't want some random stranger stumbling across my blog and therefore seeing the unedited me on FB. Where I live, my age, my e-mail, etc.
So, I'm with you. You may not see me on FB anymore soon.
Yeah. I'm leaning the same way myself.
