Mamma Mia!

This is a worrying trend. I hate musicals. An unfortunate early exposure to Cats pretty much turned me off the entire idea of musicals forever. But Mamma Mia was great last night. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Since I took Nikki to see Spamalot for our anniversary I have now seen, and had a great time at, two musicals in the last 13 days.

When I get back to Houston I'm going to visit the doctor and get my testosterone checked. If I don't do something now I might end up at the ballet.

Spamalot is completely understandable - Mamma Mia is extremely worrying; not just a musical, but a romantic musical with Abba songs! Can it get any worse?

What's wrong with ballet, by the way?

Yes, it's understandable, but it's a gateway musical. You go in thinking 'OK, it's a musical, but it's Monty Python...' next thing you know you're cheering people in yellow spandex and wandering around your IT forum humming showtunes to yourself.

Ballet may be perfectly acceptable, I wouldn't know, I've never been, I hope to never go.

Yeah. What Iain & Ian said.

". . . it's a gateway musical . . . " Awesome! Just awesome!

Iain hates Abba. He does like going to musicals though and he has seen Les Mis, Chicago, & Beauty and the Beast with me in London... I've also seen Buddy and Joseph too. I'd love to see Spamalot, especially if Michael Palin decided to take part (swooon)

I reckon my problem was cats. It's not a good musical to start with due to the total lack of plot. Following up with starlight express didn't help. So I have up on musicals. Now, well I may be dragging Nikki to a few more. Which is wrong.

How can he hate ABBA? We need justification for that opinion Shanks.

Haven't seen Cats but Iain reminded me that we've also seen Miss Saigon. I've enjoyed all the musicals I've seen, but I don't like listening to the music separately; I think you have to see the whole show. Elaine Paige has a programme about musicals on Radio 2 on Saturdays and we alway rush to the radio to change it to Northsound at that point. Then it goes back at 2 for Stuart Maconie.

I will get him to post his justification for hating Abba once he comes in from cutting the grass. I would've done it but Corrie's on.

Corny lyrics, pointless harmonies, stupid outfits, need I say more?

Abba are harmless, slightly endearing and a wee bit cute. Hating abba is like hating puppies.

I dunno if I hate ABBA, but I have serious issues with them. The issues started about 15-years ago when my regular step-aerobics instructor had to take a 2-month maternity leave. Her substitute played "Dancing Queen" each and every time we had warm-ups. Through. The. Entire. Warm-up.

15-minutes of "You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen"

3 times a week. 15-minutes each session. For 2-months.

My ears are still not quite right.
